The Journey

Oxford Concert Party's recording of a project with detainees from Campsfield Immigration Removal Centre Kidlington Oxfordshire and children of Pegasus Primary School, Blackbird Leys, Oxford.

This project took place in March 2009. For obvious reasons the children and detainees never met but communicated through songs, dances, chants and instrumental pieces. The result was a stunning collection of music and ideas which both groups brought together with great enthusiasm.

The project was delivered by the Oxford Concert Party on behalf of Music In Detention as part of its national programme of using music to enhance the quality of life for immigration detainees and promoting intercultural understanding and positive attitudes about asylum seekers, refugees and immigrants.

Members of the Oxford Concert Party taking part were: Arne Richards (accordion), Isabel Knowland (violin) and Lucy Haze (bass)

Recording and editing by Jeremy Arden.
Thanks to Campsfield and Pegasus for making it all happen.
