How you can help

Music In Detention does work which no one else is doing anywhere in the country. We are a small, independent charity, working very hard to make limited resources go a long way. We depend overwhelmingly on support from individuals and from charitable trusts and foundations. Without this support we could not help immigration detainees cope with the trauma of detention, or build understanding and empathy between them and people living near detention centres.

You can support us by:

Donating

Music In Detention has a very small staff team and keeps its administration costs to a minimum, so every donation helps deliver direct benefits to the people we help. In addition, if you are a UK taxpayer we can use Gift Aid to claim the tax on your donation back from the government, thus increasing its value by 25%.

The detention centres contribute to the costs of music workshops for detainees. To make each workshop happen we have to raise a further £210, so a regular donation of £14 per month (with Gift Aid) will pay for a workshop a year.

Volunteering

Would you like to support Music In Detention with your time and skills? We have opportunities for volunteers to help deliver music activities in detention centres and in the community, and contribute to programme administration, evaluation and communications work. Currently these opportunities are available in central and west London, Oxford and Bedford.

Volunteers make a big contribution to MID’s work and we value them very highly. If you volunteer with us you’ll make a real difference to the people we help, and we think you’ll gain a lot from the experience too. To find out more click here
