Wanted: Volunteer Workshop Assistants

Wanted: Volunteer Workshop Assistants

18th July 2013

We are looking for volunteers who would like to gain experience of supporting music-making workshops in detention centres and in neighbouring community settings.

It can be a tremendously rewarding experience to bring music and self–expression to people going through tough times and help them to connect with each other and to their own sense of worth.

The locations and times will vary (some evenings and weekends will be required). It is anticipated that between 12 to 25 hours will be required over a 6 month period. You will be fully supported by MID staff and will be accompanying two professional musicians to every workshop.

An awareness and understanding of the many emotional and physical difficulties immigration detainees may face is essential. Also an interest in working with people from a wide range of ethnic, religious and cultural backgrounds and of all age groups including young people and children.  We will pay your out-of-pocket expenses.

"MID is a unique charity and volunteers can expect to learn a lot about the detention process for asylum seekers whilst being encouraged to have individual thoughts and opinions about these issues” Previous MID volunteer
