The recordings on this CD are the culmination of a Community Exchange Project between detainees at Yarl's Wood Immigration Removal Centre and participants from Fusion Youth Singing and Fusion United Voice in Bedford. The project took place between February and April 2009.
Fusion Youth Singing & Fusion United Voices
We are privileged to have been involved in this truly unique project working alongside the talented musicians of Drum Runners and the women and children of Yarl's Wood. The enthusiasm and emerging musical creativity of all concerned has led to a greater understanding of the every day lives of those detained, whilst creating a shared sense of community as the groups 'talked to each other' through their music. We hope this 'living' project will be a source of great strength and inspiration to all.
Yarl's Wood IRC
We are delighted to have had the opportunity to work with Music In Detention artists and Fusion Youth and Fusion United Voices on this Community Exchange. Participating in such a creative and educational activity has brought together women and chidlren in the local community and at Yarl's Wood and enabled them to share their experiences through music. We would like to thank Fusion Youth and Fusion United Voices for joining hands with Yarl's Wood IRC in this project; it really is much appreciated! Thank you to Music In Detention and Drum Runners for their patience, dedication and commitment throughout this project.
This project was delivered by Drum Runners, facilitated by Paul Midgley, Anna Tabbush and Lucy Moyo, on behalf of Music In Detention.
